A Clay County man has completed his six-year term on TWRA’s Fish and Wildlife Commission.
Brian McClerran represented the Upper Cumberland District since 2017 after being appointed by Governor Bill Haslam. McClerran said the voluntary commission appoints the TWRA executive director, sets hunting seasons and the agency’s budget.
“I had a great experience,” McClerran said. “I really enjoyed being involved with the issues and getting to know the people. Currently one of the issues we are trying to help the quail population and trying to get a better habitat for the quail to repopulate in our area.”
McClerran said he also dealt with wild hog issues, deer populations and set safety standards for boating. McClerran said a recent change he was a part of was the wake zone change at Cookeville Boat Dock.
“That is something several folks in our area that they would be familiar with,” McClerran said. “So we deal with safety on the water, safety in hunting and we deal with the population with animals and protecting their resources.”
McClerran is from Moss and graduated from Tennessee Tech. He is also an angus farmer as well as avid outdoorsman.
“I have already attended my last official meeting,” McClerran said. “My term expires the last day of February as long as the new people get approved through the Congress.”
