Cookeville HS Implementing Upgraded Controls System

Cookeville High School has finalized the implementation of its new climate control systems.

Putnam County Schools Deputy Director Tim Martin said the system is large and has several different parts that make automatic adjustments to the school’s heating and air systems. He said because someone is not having to make those adjustments to units individually, it creates better efficiency.

“We were having a really hard time keeping it running, to be honest with you,” Martin said. “So we’ve actually replaced one boiler with two new, high-efficiency boilers which give us some redundancy and doesn’t shut the whole place down if something does happen.”

Martin said the system upgrade was finalized this month. He said they expect to see a solid return on investment and good cost-saving as the control system begins its work.

Martin said they are looking at all of the schools in the system to do similar upgrades. However, he said HVAC is one of the more expensive factors so future upgrades will depend on the budget.

“So there’s lots of those units out there and lots of different things,” Martin said. “We would like to have all of our different systems on the same controls and that would be a big benefit to us, but we do not have that right now. But we are looking at other schools.”
