Putnam County Archivist Glenn Jones beginning the process to organize hundreds of items into the new archives building.
The county is currently in the process of moving its Veterans Service Officer and Archives to the new Patton House Doll Museum replacement. Archivist Glenn Jones said the Veterans Hall portion will feature generations of military pictures as well as military uniforms dating back to the Civil War.
“We’re glad the county, Randy Porter and the commission voted to do this,” Jones said. “The facility is very nice, very modern and clean. I think it would be a good place for the public to get to.”
Jones said it is a lengthy process as each item must be removed, cleaned and packed safely for transfer. Jones said he has marked each location on the top floor to make sure all the items will fit.
Jones said ten full filing cabinets of marriage applications and another 10 of court records will also be transferred to the new location.
Jones said moving out of the County Clerk’s Office means the facility will have better parking and hopefully bring in more people. The building is located along Highway 70 where the old Patton House Doll Museum once stood.
