School safety, staffing and community connections have been the focus for Spencer Police Chief Scott Garing.
Garing was appointed as police chief in September of last year after serving in the city 10 years as a patrol officer. Since taking the job, Garing said he has added two new school resource officers.
“Connecting with the community has always been my number one as well as being in the chief capacity, I am in the schools a lot more with the school resource officers,” Garing said. “We are able to teach about gun safety, vape awareness and just other issues.”
Garing said the department also recently added a new patrol officer. Garing said staffing has reached the point that the department can provide quality law enforcement.
“Staffing has been excellent with our department to provide quality law enforcement with community pride, respect and first rate delivery of services,” Garing said.
Garing said as chief, he wants to maintain a safe and attractive community and school system.
