White County Schools partnering up with the local public library to implement a library book bus.
Director of Schools Kurt Dronebarger said the system has purchased a used bookmobile already fitted with the necessary equipment for use. He said the bus will be used schools and other community locations.
“Certainly in the summer time as well when we don’t have school programming going on, we can go into the community and provide reading materials to students,” Dronebarger said. “So we’re looking forward to all the above, making sure our kids have access to good reading material.”
Dronebarger said through the partnership with the library, kids will have access to books that the school system might not already have. He said in doing so, it gives kids access to books at the public library they might not otherwise get a chance to read if they cannot make the trip to the public library.
Dronebarger said they are in the process of putting the lettering on the outside of the bus and getting the books inside the bus. He said they have been working on this project since last summer and are hoping to get the bus on the road as soon as possible.
“We have several weeks of prepping the bus, getting ready and lettered, and getting it outfitted,” Dronebarger said. “But as soon as possible we want to get that process going.”
