Obituaries For Wednesday, January 25

Mr. James Daniel Hoffmann, Jr., age 56, of Alpine passed from this life on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, from the Livingston Regional Medical Center. He was born in Memphis on May 17, 1966, to the late James Daniel Hoffmann, Sr. and Virginia Hobbs Hoffmann. James served his country as a Marine in the Gulf War. He worked for many years for the East Tennessee State University. He enjoyed riding his golf cart, fishing, and being on his pontoon boat on Dale Hollow Lake. His family, friends, and serving his country was his greatest joys in life. James leaves behind his sister, Victoria Speck and husband Sandford of Alpine, TN; stepbrother, David Hoffmann of Lebanon; niece, Amy Leigh Speck of Wilmington, NC; great nephew, Rey Speck of Wilmington, NC; and uncle, Stuart Hoffmann of Murphy, NC. James was preceded in death by his parents, there are no services scheduled at this time. Memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or to the charitable organization of your choice.

Funeral services for Mr. James “Sawdust” Yates, age 81 of Doyle, will be held Thursday, January 26, at 2:00 p.m., in the chapel of Oak Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Mt. Gilead Cemetery in Sparta. Mr. Yates passed away Sunday, January 22, 2023, at his residence. Sawdust was a member of the Doyle Volunteer Fire Department, served as a Doyle Alderman, was a semi-truck driver for many years, and was owner/operator of Yates & Son Pallet Mill. Survivors include two children, Rhonda (Terry) Robinson and Randy Yates. Visitation will be held Thursday, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

Funeral services for Mr. Glen Goggins, age 87 of Monterey, will be held Friday, January 27, at 11:00 a.m., at Monterey Church of Christ. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Welch Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Goggins passed away Sunday, January 22, 202,3 at his home. Visitation will be held Thursday, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at Horner Funeral Home, and Friday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service, at the church.

Graveside services for Mr. Lloyd Anthony “Tony” Mott, age 61 of Cookeville, will be held Friday, January 27, at 11:00 a.m., at Cookeville City Cemetery. Mr. Mott passed away Sunday, January 22, 2023, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born January 9, 1962, the son of Mary Virginia Fuqua and the late Charles Donald Mott. Tony graduated from Tennessee Technological University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance. In addition to his mother, survivors include two sisters, Marilyn (James) Dunlap of Gallatin and Donna Bilbrey of Cookeville.

Funeral services for Mr. Homer Seegraves, age 87 of Sparta, will be held Friday, January 27, at 12:00 p.m., in the chapel of Thurman Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Smith’s Chapel Cemetery. Mr. Seegraves passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2023. He was born on January 23, 1936, the son of the late Oliver and Magnolia Seegraves. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Mabel Seegraves; a son, Kenny Seegraves; a daughter, Debbie (Don) Wilson. Visitation will be held Friday, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

Funeral services for Mrs. Nan Sadler Stewart, age 82 of Cookeville, will be held Friday, January 27, at 12:00 p.m., at Collegeside Church of Christ. Burial will follow in Rob Draper Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. Stewart passed away Monday, January 23, 2023, at her home. She was born June 5, 1940, in Livingston, the daughter of the late John Fowler and Mary Anderson Sadler. She was a 1958 Livingston Academy, and graduated from Tennessee Polytechnic Institute (TTU), with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She later earned a Master of Science in Education (TTU) and a Master of Science in Speech and Reading Diagnostics, from Saginaw Valley State University in Michigan. Mrs. Stewart enjoyed a 35-year teaching career, having taught school in the states of Tennessee and Michigan. She attended Collegside Church of Christ. Survivors include two daughters, Mary Beth Stewart (Greg) Shirley of Cookeville and Ronda Lee (Kelly O’Callaghan) Stewart of St. Clair Shores, MI; a son, Robert Ray (Elizabeth) Stewart of Chattanooga. Visitation will be held Thursday, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., and Friday, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to the Mustard Seed Ranch and the Happy Haven Childrens’ Home are encouraged.

A Celebration of Life gathering for Mrs. Peggy Ann Hogan, age 74 of Buffalo Valley, will be held Saturday, January 28, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., at The Farm, located on Indian Springs Road in Buffalo Valley. Mrs. Hogan passed away Sunday, January 8, 2023. She was born April 28, 1948, in San Diego, CA, the daughter of the late Walter R. and Leta Mae Bell. Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Mike Hogan; her children, Tammy Hogan, David (Erin) Bilbrey. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to support the children of the Mustard Seed Ranch in Peggy’s memory, at www.mustardseedranchtn.org.

Funeral services for Mr. Wilmer Weaver, age 81 of Baxter, will be held Friday, January 27, at 1:00 p.m., at the Baxter chapel of Hooper, Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Burial will follow in New Home Baptist Church Cemetery in the Boma Community. Mr. Weaver passed away Monday, January 23, 2023, at Ascension St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville. He was born June 12, 1941, in Virginia Beach, VA, the son of the late Irvin M. and Mary Ann Lee Weaver. He was a retired carpenter. Wilmer lived most of his life in Hartville, OH, retiring to Baxter in 2011. He attended Life Church in Cookeville. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Dorothy Miller Weaver of Baxter. Visitation will be held Thursday, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., and Friday, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

Funeral services for Mr. Casto “Junior” Key, age 90, of Monterey, will be held Friday, January 27, at 2:00 p.m., in the chapel of Goff Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Welch Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Key passed away Monday, January 23, 2023, at his home. He was born Saturday, March 5, 1932, in Crawford, the son of the late Casto Smith Key Sr. and Amie Padgett Key. Mr. Key worked many years as groundskeeper at Druid Hills Golf Course in Fairfield Glade. He was a member of Three Forks Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of almost 66 years, Alice Phillips Key of Monterey; a daughter, Brenda Welch of Monterey. Visitation will be held Friday, from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service.

Funeral services for Mrs. Barbara Wheeler, age 85 of Lockport and a native of Gainesboro, will be held Saturday, January 28, at 1:00 p.m., at Whitson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in John Young Cemetery. Mrs. Wheeler passed away Sunday, January 15, 2023. She was born March 12, 1937, in Gainesboro, the daughter of the late Clarence C. and Bertha Mayberry Pippin. Visitation will be held Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

Funeral services for Linda Clark-Scott, 66 of Cookeville, will be Saturday, January 28 at 2 PM at the Dyer Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home. Bro. Michael Madden will officiate. Interment will follow in Phillips Cemetery in the Anderson Community of Overton County. Mrs. Clark-Scott died Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at her home. She was born July 26, 1956 in Monterey to the late Fred and Tennie Vaughn Murphy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter Amanda Smith, sisters Anna Dean Chapman, Roawena Murphy, Johnnie Smallwood, brothers Roger and Troy Murphy, father and mother-in-law Joe and Faye McBride Scott. Linda retired as a registered nurse in labor and delivery at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was a member at Brindley’s Chapel Church of God. Linda enjoyed shopping, collecting dishes and walking her pet dog, Sassy. Survivors include husband Michael Scott of Cookeville, sons Jeff Smith of Cookeville, Chad Clark and Alan Clark both of Nashville, Joseph Smallwood of Cookeville, brother Ernest Murphy of Nashville, grandchildren: Belen Clark, Carlos Clark, Mason Clark and Elizabeth Clark, great-grandchildren: Isaiah Clark and Santiago Clark. The family will receive friends Friday from 5 to 8 PM and after 11 AM Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorial services for Mrs. Lori Zimmerman, age 61 of Sparta, will be held Saturday, January 28, at 2:00 p.m., at Fraser’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Mrs. Zimmerman passed away Friday, January 13, 2023, at her home. She was born July 18, 1961, in Chillicothe, OH, the daughter of the late Alford and Nancy Horsley. She formerly worked as a CNA. Survivors include her husband of 16 years, George Zimmerman, Jr.; three stepchildren, Jessi Kamer and Samantha Zimmerman, both of Florida, and George Zimmerman, III of Sparta. A reception will immediately follow the funeral service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to the White County Animal Shelter.

A Celebration of Life service for Mr. Jimmy Curtis Tollett, age 68 of Cookeville, will be held, Friday, February 3, at 5:00 p.m., in the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home. Mr. Tollett passed away Saturday, January 21, 2023, at Alive Hospice in Nashville. Jimmy proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Charlene (Finch) Tollett; five children, David (Brandy) Tollet, Christopher (Stephanie) Tollett, Jesse (Corrine) Tollet, Marcie (James) Parsons, and Rhoda (Allan) Murphy. Visitation will be held Friday, February 3, from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service.

A Celebration of Life gathering for Ms. Pamela (Flatt) Phillips, age 85 of Largo, FL and formerly of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, February 4, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., at Crest Lawn Funeral Home. Ms. Phillips passed away, Friday, January 6, 2023.
