The new three-digit suicide prevention number has lead to more Upper Cumberland residents seeking mental health guidance.
Roughly 500 additional callers a month have used the new 988 number after changing from 10-digits six months ago. Upper Cumberland Suicide Prevention Network Director Mike Anderson said the increase was anticipated.

Anderson said the new number consolidates the national and state suicide prevention hotline as well as new text options. Anderson said the modern options attached to the 988 number has lead to more younger adults or teenagers to reach out.
Anderson said a strong marketing push as well as local partners helped lead to more referrals or consultations. Anderson said all of these factors combined has lead to more suicide prevention.
