Cumberland County Playhouse welcoming patrons back to the theatre for 2023 with the theme “Together We Can Make Magic.”
Producing Director Bryce McDonald said the 2023 season will open next month with its production of “Frozen Jr.”
“And so all of the offerings we have for the whole year, we believe, show and showcase magical entities and abilities and things about the magic of love and family, all of those things,” McDonald said. “So people are in for a real treat of the magic of seeing live theatre on stage.”
McDonald said other shows in the season include “Little Shop of Horrors”, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, and Agatha Christie’s “And Then There Were None.”
McDonald said a season is planned years in advance. He said the team has to plan for what sells, what the audience wants to see, and what rights are available to regional theaters at the time. McDonald said a key factor to a successful season is having a good working relationship with theatrical publishers.
“We are able to reach and put arts in front of children, adults, and other patrons that would never have had access to it,” McDonald said. “So that helps us a lot of times where they’ll call us and say ‘Hey this show is becoming available and we think it would be great for your audience, would you like to do it?’ And then we jump on it.”
