Clay HS Football Recognized At School Board Meeting

Clay County School Board recognized the high school football team Thursday night for their accomplishments this season.

Chair Benji Bailey congratulated the team on making it to the championship for the first time in the school’s history.

“Any time that something is accomplished that’s never been done before, it’s a great feat,” Bailey said. “And it’s something that you players and coaches and everybody associated with should take great pride in it. It’s something that can never be taken away from you. And we’re certainly proud of you and the way you competed.”

Bailey said even more so, they are proud of the team’s decorum and manners. He said they took great pride in seeing what the team was able to accomplish.

Celina Mayor Luke Collins also praised the players, managers, and coaches for making the entire Celina and Clay County community proud. In order to honor their hard work and dedication, Collins awarded each individual a key to the city.

“I want to thank all of you for the most entertaining season that I have ever seen and I loved it,” “(…) I really can’t overemphasize how proud I am of all of you. You’re the best football team Clay County has ever had, undisputed. And it really is a pleasure to watch all of you in action.”
