UC Regional Airport Preparing To Bid First Step Of Ramp And Hangar Expansion

Upper Cumberland Regional Airport preparing to bid out the first portion of work for its ramp and hangar expansion project.

Airport Manager Dean Selby said the engineer has finalized plans for the dirt and groundwork for the ramp expansion. He said the airport is having to meet a large demand for more space from its general aviation pilots.

“We’re out of hangar space for that and we’ve been kind of focusing on the commercial stuff and the 135 stuff as far as charters, and now we need to get caught back up on general aviation,” Selby said. “We have about 58 people on the waiting list to relocate their aircraft here that we don’t have hangar space for.”

Selby said the ramp and hangar expansion project has been a challenging undertaking for the airport because they are utilizing four different entities for the funding process. He said that has caused the process to move slower than previously expected.

Selby said they have about $500,000 in grants and about $900,000 through the FAA. He said there will also be about $1 million from local contribution through a USDA loan.

“We’re really excited to get this project underway,” “I know the airport is ready to expand and our pilots are ready to capitalize on the opportunity expanding our ramp and our hangar capacities will afford.”
