Algood taking efforts to improve its cybersecurity to protect residential and data.
City Administrator Keith Morrison said the city is applying for a grant to reinforce its cloud system and physical hard drives.
“We’re going to use it to continue to ensure that our data is backed up in multiple locations and in multiple ways, so that we always have a secure way to get our data if it was to be hacked or taken over,” Morrison said.
Morrison said cybersecurity has not been an issue for the city. Morrison said the grant application is more of a proactive state as cyber threats evolve.
Morrison said data such as utility payments, city transactions and inventory needs to be protected. Morrison said the grant opportunity is available through the city’s insurance provider.
