Overton County Sheriff’s Department putting out its jail roof repair project to bid.
Chief Deputy Tim Poore said the building was built in 2001 and the roof is original to the building. He said the old-style rubberized roof is beginning to deteriorate, creating issues for the jail, the admin, and parts of the courtrooms.
“And during the years, that rubber roof s started to pull away from the walls and it is in dire need of a new roof,” Poore said. “And we’ve had several places that have had leaks and we try to patch it up to keep it going as much as possible but it’s time for a new roof.”
Poore said with budget constriction, he had applied for grant funding. He said he believes he will be able to get at least part of the grant to cover the up to $300,000 project.
Poore said the bid will be advertised until the next commission meeting. He said that based on preliminary quotes, once a bid is approved the job should take about two to three months.
