Friends of the Baxter Depot holding a program that highlights three Baxter residents who were fixtures in Hollywood during the 20th century.
Putnam County Archivist Glenn Jones said Roger Herren was born in Baxter in 1945. He was in films like Paint Your Wagon and the controversial film Myra Breckinridge.
“I think it’s good to show people just anything history, people like history,” Jones said. “That’s why we’re a museum. We try to do live demonstrations to expose people to historical facts of Baxter.”
Jones said Mark Herron was born in 1928. He starred in films such as Girl in Gold Boots and Eye of the Cat. Mark Herron eventually became Judy Garland’s fourth husband. Jones said the third Baxter native, Jerry Petty, worked with Disney on parades and served as a stand-in for major actors like Peter Fonda.
Jones said the Friends of the Baxter Depot try to highlight interest points in Baxter’s history through these 15-minute programs and presentations at their monthly meetings. He said they hope it enhances their meetings and entices more members of the community to attend.
The meeting will be held Monday, December 5th at 5 p.m.
