TTU Will Present New Music Degree Program To THEC

Tennessee Tech University will bring a new Bachelor of Science in Music degree program next year.

Provost Lori Bruce said the university already offers two degrees for music education and music performance. Bruce said a number of students and employers wanted a broader program.

“Employers that are looking for students that have that strong music education, but maybe combined with business or technology that gives them the flexibility in the workplace,” Bruce said. “So, we’re really excited about this new program.”

Bruce said graduates of this program will be more marketable to employers. Bruce said employers in Nashville, Knoxville and Chattanooga have expressed interest in students with a strong music education and another skill.

Bruce said she will present the program to the Tennessee Higher Education Commission for final approval in November. The Board of Trustees approved the new degree during is latest meeting.

Bruce said getting the program off the ground will not be that difficult with the faculty already in place. Bruce said most of the expenditures will be used on gear or student services.
