Council Approves Then Rescinds Bid For Low Pressure Sewer System

Cookeville City Council had a change of heart Thursday night on awarding a bid for a low-pressure sewer system.

The project would have brought sewer to parts of Shag Rag Road, Dry Valley Road, and Contraband Road. But a piece of property in the area is up for zoning and the developer has verbally offered to pay for some of the new infrastructure.

Council voted to rescind the bid after citizens voiced concerns about a potential development and the verbal offer by the developer to pay. One citizen expressed concerns that the city’s planning staff had misrepresented the intention of the project.

Council will reconsider the issue at its November 3rd meeting.
