TWRA asking for public comment on proposed new fishing regulations in Tennessee waters.
Regional Fisheries Program Manager Mark Thurman there are several proposals for waters specific to the Upper Cumberland, including Fall Creek Falls. He said these include kreel limits for bass, blue gill, and catfish.
“The goal of that regulation is to increase the quality at fisheries by spreading out the harvest,” Thurman said. “And by keeping larger fish in the population.”
Thurman said trotline regulations are also included in the proposed regulations. He said trotlines will have a required check every 24 hours and they cannot extend more than three-quarters across any stream. Thurman said through these updates, they are hopeful that fishing experiences will be enhanced across the state.
Thurman said the regulations were proposed at TWRA’s September commission meeting and will be voted on at the December meeting. He said the public comment period will close on November 15th.
“All of these, especially the Fall Creek Falls regulations,” Thurman said. “The goal of those proposals is to enhance the quality of fishing.”
