Upper Cumberland Regional Airport Board will explore revisions of its bylaws to potentially change the board makeup if needed.
This after Cookeville Mayor Laurin Wheaton expressed concern about overcommitting herself. Airport Manager Dean Selby said it’s important to have representatives from all four governmental entities on the board.
“The mayors were appointed as a permanent seat so it would foster that interaction rather than have a barrier fo being able to get directly to the mayors and talk about that stuff,” Selby said. “And work with local government projects and economic projects with the private sector. To have a direct line.”
Selby said ultimately the next step will be a board decision, whether they will let Wheaton appoint someone or appoint someone themselves. Selby said it would create a whole vetting process to be submitted to the board for approval.
Selby said it could possibly take revising some of the board’s bylaws which they did years ago to give the mayors a permanent seat on the board. He said it will require a lot of negotiation and discussion from the governmental entities. He said they will come to know more about the next steps as discussions continue.
