Livingston’s State-Shared Sales Tax Revenue Increases Over Last Year

Livingston’s allocation of state shared sales tax revenue exceeded $500,000 this year.

Downtown Revitalization Member Ray Evans said it is a significant increase of 14 percent over last year and doubles the city’s average over the last six years.

‘To me, that says the investments that y’all have approved in the central business district are paying off,” Evans said. “We would not be generating the sales tax revenue if our retailers were not being so successful and obviously they are.”

Evans said from 2012 to 2017, the city only generated about $230,000 a year. Evans said the revenue dropped as low as $162,000 in 2018 due to Winningham Hardware burning down.

“The last year number was something we totally did not expect,” Evans said. “It was almost $160,000 more. We just continue to improve and improve.”

The sales tax revenue was a part of the Downtown Revitalization budget approved by the Board of Aldermen Monday night. Evans said the overall budget did not include many changes accept for a few grant applications.
