Overton Health Department Continuing Flu Shot Clinics At Schools

Overton County Health Department continuing its efforts to increase the opportunities to receive a flu shot ahead of flu season.

The Department has been setting of vaccine clinics at Overton schools last week and will do so again next week. Nursing Supervisor Megan Reeder said the goal is to get more people vaccinated against the flu and make it easy to do so.

“We have lots of parents that they’re super excited that they’re there,” Reeder said. “Because it can be hard with parents working especially. This way they’re already there, we can get their child vaccinated. It just makes us more accessible.”

Reeder said this is about the 10th year the department has offered these types of clinics. She said after COVID, they decided to revamp the clinics and make it a more widespread offering. Reeder said now, they’re going to fall events as well as schools in hopes of increasing the number of students and community members who take advantage.

Reeder said while some may be hesitant to get their flu shot, it could help them in the long run. She said it’s proven that those with a flu vaccine will have lesser cases than those without. The next opportunity to get a flu shot will be Monday, October 3rd at Livingston Middle School from 2:30-6:30 p.m.

“We really encourage vaccination for yourself to protect yourself and others,” Reeder said. “And as much illness as there is in the world right now with flu, and COVID, and monkey pox, why not protect ourselves with what we can.”

Clinics will also be on October 4th at A.H. Roberts Elementary and Allons Elementary. October 6th, a clinic will be at Wilson Elementary. The clinics finish up with Livingston Academy on October 7th.
