Wilson Elementary named a state reward school, achieving a major goal for the Overton County School System.
Director of Schools Donnie Holman said the status is something every school strives for. The criteria for a reward school include three points: academic achievement, academic growth, and attendance.
“What that does is shows that a school is well-rounded,” Holman said. “That they’re doing good and pretty much every facet of a student’s education.”
Holman said the state collects the data for those three areas and tallies a score, up to a maximum of 4. Wilson Elementary earned a 3.1, meeting the threshold for a reward school.
Holman said it takes the work of the entire faculty and staff to help the success of a school. Principal Ashley Fisher said the reward school status is an annual goal for the school system.
