10th Street Phase II Next Large Project On Cookeville’s List

Cookeville’s next big project on the docket: 10th Street Phase II.

That’s according to City Manager James Mills. He said now that city is just about 100 percent finished with phase I, it’s time to turn sights toward the step on the project.

“The projected costs on that have gone up significantly from when we originally planned for the project,” Mills said. “But the engineering has been completed for the project and we’re currently in the right-of-way acquisition.”

Mills said phase II includes widening 10th Street from Old Kentucky Road to Fisk Road. He said that eventually there will be a third phase that goes from Fisk Road to North Washington Avenue.

Mills said once the right-of-way acquisition is completed, the project will go out to bid and the city will see where it’s at cost-wise. He said he believes phase II will be a project the city is able to afford.

“That’s the next large project,” Mills said. “We have many, many projects going on in the city right now.”
