Central Tennessee Kayak Anglers hosting its final fishing tournament of the season at Cordell Hull Lake this weekend.
Tournament Director Garrad Johnson said the Cordell Hull Classic is usually one of the largest events out of the club’s 10 fishing tournaments.
“Our club actually started in 2016-2017,” Johnson said. “It revolved purely on Cordell Hull when it first started, so we always keep that on our schedule.”
Johnson said the competition is different than normal bass boat tournaments. Johnson said it is a catch, photo and release format. Johnson said fish are laid on a measuring board, documented and then released shortly after.
“Now, we’ve added Dale Hollow and Center Hill as a part of our rotation of lakes we fish,” Johnson said. “Every year we switch which lake we end up going to for the classic. This year it’s came back to Cordell Hull. We usually have two to three events on Cordell Hull per year.”
Johnson said the season usually starts in early spring until late summer. Johnson said the top 10 anglers with the best five showings out of the 10 tournaments will compete in the state tournament at Kentucky Lake.
The open event will last until Sunday afternoon.
