Rep. Windle Reflects On 27 Years Of Service In Tennessee Army National Guard

Representative John Mark Windle has officially retired from the Tennessee Army National Guard.

Windle said that after 27 years in service, he wishes the best to all of the young members of the Army who are still in service. He said the biggest lesson he’s learned is that despite differences, America is strong.

“Not just because of the military, but I feel very good about the future of our country,” Windle said. “When you’re in uniform and you see that caliber of people.”

Windle said he originally joined the military following in the footsteps of his father who served in the Cold War and his grandfather who served in World War I. He said serving with many other members from the Upper Cumberland has been his honor.

Windle said one of his most cherished memories during his time in service was when he and 4,500 other Tennesseans deployed to the middle east in 2004.
