Local shops are preparing for one of the busiest weekends of the summer.
The sales tax holiday for the return of school starts Friday. Ready Set Grow Children’s Boutique Owner Susan Chaffin said she is anticipating a big retail weekend.
“We have customers that wait for this holiday for weeks on end,” Chaffin said. “They come in and kind of do a preliminary look of what we have currently stocked and we have rushed lots of our school shoes in and school outfits.”
Chaffin said shoes are usually the top item families look for. Ruffle Me This Children’s Boutique Owner Maggie Bennett said she pre-orders inventory just for this specific weekend.
“I think that during the tax free holiday weekend that everybody has the same thing on their mind,” Bennett said. “Back to school outfits, backpacks, shoes, accessories and that’s what they come in here for.”
Clothing, school supplies and computers will be tax free tomorrow until Sunday. During this holiday weekend, clothing prices under $100, school supplies priced under $100, and computers priced under $1500 are exempt from sales tax. Online purchases are included.
