McMinnville has received a state award for its wetland restoration project at Bobby Ray Memorial Elementary School.
The Tennessee Municipal League has recognized the city for Excellence in Stormwater Management. Stormwater Manager Lyndon Bussell said the project would result in a park for the school.
“For a statewide organization to notice some of the things that we are doing especially in terms of green infrastructure and what we are trying to do down here, it means a lot not only to the employees here but for the people as well,” Bussell said.
Bussell said stormwater mitigation is the practice of lessening precipitation impact to water quantity and quality. Bussell said the wetland would achieve both goals by filtering water impurities and also prevent flooding.
Bussell said the project remains in the preliminary planning stages. McMinnville will receive the state award August 16th in Gatlinburg.
