A dog park in the Livingston community has been a long-time ask from residents, according to Mayor Curtis Hayes.
The town was one of 15 awarded $25,000 from the Boyd Foundation Dog Park Dash Grant. Hayes said that a dog park would be a huge plus to attract people downtown.
“The location of the park is A. Downtown Livingston,” Hayes said. “You’re walking distance from restaurants and shopping and B. of course Central Park. So it will be centrally located.”
Hayes said the new park could help address current issues. He said that dogs are not allowed at Central Park, and that there have been complaints of waste at the ballpark.
Hayes said the park will be on a 1-acre site adjacent to Central Park. He said the city would still have rules and regulations in place for the dog park.
“Probably have a timeline when the park will open and close,” Hayes said. “We certainly don’t want the park to be a nuisance to anybody (…) And I just think this will really be a win for us.”
Evans said the first step is to schedule a check presentation of the grant. Evans said after that, an agreement would be brought to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen to accept the grant. Evans said a discussion will be required on city funding since the grant will not cover the full cost.
‘We’ll discuss how we would handle the overages and costs, but I can tell you that we would do that through our state shared sales tax revenue that we get each year from the state to reinvest,” Evans said.
