Monterey hoping to rebid the depot roofing project after rejecting the previous bids.
Mayor Nathan Walker said those bids were not specific enough, so the city had to reject the bids they received to fix the issue and rebid the work.
“We didn’t take into account taking off the old roof or taking off the old shingles or what it would be replaced with or what the square footage was,” Walker said. “So the bids that we received, while we appreciated those bids, they just varied wildly because the contractors weren’t sure what we were asking them to do.”
Walker said they expect bids for the work to come in around $8,000 to $10,000. He said that they hope to get all of the recommendations and specs they need this week to get the rebid process underway.
Walker said it’s important to do this project the right way, as the depot is an important fixture in Monterey.
“We have so many great historic artifacts from Monterey throughout that building that we want to make sure we do everything we can to protect those” “And make sure that we don’t have any leaks or anything.”
