UCDD is partnering with the Bull and Thistle in downtown Gainesboro for a new lecture series celebrating the town’s bicentennial.
Historic Preservation Planner Mark Dudney said the series will highlight everything from the county’s beginning to its natural resources.
“Jackson County has a rich and diverse history so we’re going to go back everything from pre-history to Native American History, Flynn Creek Impact Crater,” Dudney said. “We’ve got a retired geologist who’s going to come and speak, the Civil War, the maneuvers in Granville during World War II.”
Dudney said that the series will run on Saturday morning until October.
The town had plans set for its 200th anniversary in 2020, but Dudney said the pandemic led to the need to reschedule.
The first lecture will be on July 30th, with a presentation by UCDD’s Chuck Sutherland about caves and waterfalls in Jackson. For the most up-to-date information on the lectures, Dudney said to follow Gainesboro Bicentennial 1820-2020 on Facebook.
