Upper Cumberland Election Administrators saw several hundred new voters register for the upcoming August election.
The deadline to register to vote in this election passed this week. Putnam County Election Administrator Michelle Honeycutt said the county had 920 new voters in the past three months.
“It’s a little higher, not too bad,” Honeycutt said. “Before a presidential and governor race, then we end up with a lot more. But, we had noticed the last week and a half or so we’ve had a lot of online registrations. Close to 50 a night.”
Since April, Overton County saw an uptick of 310 new voters. Election Administrator Craig Story said a typical quarter has about 200. Story said he contributed the increase to more local candidates leading to more campaigning.
White County saw an increase in registration compared to the last local election two years ago. Election Administrator Dorcas Marcum said the county registered 358 new voters compared to 289.
