Obituaries For Thursday, June 30

Mr. Daniel E. “Danny” Collins, age 68 of Cookeville, passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. No services are scheduled at this time. Mr. Collins was born August 21, 1953, in Clarendon County, SC, to Elizabeth Ridgeway Collins and the late Barney E. Collins. Danny served his country in the United States Air Force as a mechanic at Seymour Johnson Air Force base in North Carolina and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Throughout his career as a mechanical engineer, he worked at AP Parts in Goldsboro, NC, Frigidaire in Orangeburg, SC, and Metcom in Cookeville. In addition to his mother, survivors include two daughters, Melanie (Justin) Jackson and Heather (Les) Hoyt. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife of over 40 years, Elizabeth “Peach” Hall Collins.

Funeral services for Putnam County Register of Deeds Mr. Harold Burris, age 60 of Cookeville, will be held Friday, July 1, at 11:00 a.m., at the Cookeville chapel of Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Smith Chapel Cemetery. Mr. Burris passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at his home. He was born February 9, 1962, in Cookeville, the son of Opal Horner Burris of Cookeville and the late Hershel Burris. Harold started working in the Register of Deeds office in 1999 and was honored to be elected Register in 2006. His love for community was shown by his many contributions of service and gifts in the Upper Cumberland area. He was also a member of Whitson Chapel Church of Christ. In addition to his mother, survivors include a son, Ethan (Alyssa) Burris. Visitation will be held Thursday until 8:00 p.m., and Friday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Smith Chapel Cemetery Fund, c/o Kristy Langford, 7690 Smith Chapel Road, Cookeville, TN, 38506.

A memorial service for Mr. Micheal Shannon Hagan, age 48 of Shelbyville and formerly of Sparta, will be held Friday, July 1, at 2:00 p.m., at Oak Lawn Funeral Home. Mr. Hagan passed away Sunday, June 26, 2022, at Vanderbilt Bedford Hospital. He was born November 18, 1973, in Tompkinsville, KY, the son of Billy and Kay Rich. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He coached little league softball and was a youth leader for 10 years at Copeland Chapel Church. In addition to his parents, survivors include his wife, Melissa Hagan; two daughters, Katelynn (Adam) Saylors and Brittany Hagan (Jeffrey Young). Visitation will be held Friday, from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made at Oak Lawn Funeral Home to assist with funeral expenses.

A limited memorial service for Mr. Christopher “Chris” DeVol Myers, age 51 of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, July 2. Mr. Myers passed away Friday, June 24, 2022, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. The family has chosen cremation. Chris was born Thursday, February 18, 1971, in Cookeville, the son of Patricia Pincheon Jones of Cookeville and the late McHenry Myers Jr. In addition to his mother, survivors include a sister, sister Kenya Myers of Atlanta GA.

Funeral services for Mrs. Etta “Valez” Johnson, age 79 of Sparta, will be held Saturday, July 2, at 11:00 a.m., at Oak Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Plainview Cemetery in the Cassville community. Mrs. Johnson passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at her home. She was born October 15, 1942, in Sparta, the daughter of the late George and Lena Johnson. Val was a prolific songwriter, having many number one hits recorded by major Southern Gospel groups. She loved to sing about her Lord, and was in various Southern Gospel groups over the years that saw many people come to know Jesus as their Savior. Survivors include a daughter, Christy (Tim) Judd. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gene; a son, Rickey. Visitation will be held Friday, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

A memorial service for Ms. Bonnie L. Stapp, age 55 of Livingston, will be held Saturday, July 2, at 11:00 a.m., in the Livingston Academy Gymnasium. Ms. Stapp passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at the Overton County Health and Rehab Center. She was born February 27, 1967, in Fort Pierce, FL, the daughter of the late Alfred and Lela Riggs Stapp. Bonnie loved reading, gardening, and antiquing. She had tremendous love for all of her students and her cats.  She enjoyed listening to country music and spending time with her loving family. Survivors include a sister, Penny (Jeffrey) Dean of Ocoee, FL. Memorial donations in memory of Ms. Bonnie Stapp may be made either to Pass It Forward, c/o Swallows Insurance, Tom Stephens, P.O. Box 160, Livingston, TN, 38570, or to the Livingston Academy Alumni Association, 120 Melvin Johnson Dr, Livingston, TN, 38570.

Funeral services for Mr. Daryl Hickey, age 69 of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, July 2, at 1:00 p.m., in the chapel of Hunter Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Saylors Cemetery. Mr. Hickey passed away Thursday, June 30, 2022, at Signature Health Care Center in Algood. He was born November 13, 1952, in Chattanooga, the son of the late Joe and Hassie Davis Hickey. Daryl was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days for 45 years. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Donna Bray Hickey. Visitation will be held Saturday, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

Funeral services for Mrs. Susan Ruth Ludwig Case, age 67 of Canton, GA, and formerly of Bloomington Springs, will be held Tuesday, July 5, at 11:30 a.m., at Heavenly Host Lutheran Church in Cookeville. Burial will follow in Dyer Cemetery in Bloomington Springs. Mrs. Case passed away Sunday, June 26, 2022, at Northside Hospital Cherokee in Canton, GA. She was born April 20, 1955, in Groton, CT, the daughter of Ruth Ida Radke Ludwig and the late Gustav W. Ludwig. She was retired from residency advisory at Tennessee Technological University, and a member of the Heavenly Host Lutheran Church. In addition to her mother, survivors include her husband of 50 years, Gary David Case; a son, Gregory David Case; two daughters, Shannon (Timothy) Lynn Nowak of Mooresboro, NC, and Regan Romans Case of Cumming, GA. Visitation will be held Tuesday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial donations may be made to the Cookeville Pregnancy Clinic by contacting Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home.

A Celebration of Life service for Mr. Bernard Hollins Allred, age 92 of Cookeville, will be held Tuesday, July 5, at 1:00 p.m., at Cookeville Church of the Nazarene. Burial, with military honors, will follow at 4:00 p.m. in Clarkrange Cemetery. Mr. Allred passed away Saturday, June 25, 2022, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born July 18, 1929, in Clarkrange, the son of the late Emma Todd Allred and Virgil Edward Allred. He was United States Army veteran and was honorably discharged before his enlistment time ended due to family needs. He was a lifetime member of the Cookeville Church of the Nazarene, where he served in many capacities including the church board for many years. Survivors include his wife, Anna Faye Gilreath Allred; three children, Constance Allred (Jim) Maddux of Sparta, William “Bill” Allred of South Lebanon, OH, and Rev. Ed H. (Renee) Allred of Crosby, TX. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Wilma Lee Sewell Allred; a son, Gary Bernard Allred. Visitation will be held Tuesday, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

Celebration of Life services for Ms. Sandy Heady, age 62, of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, July 9, at 11:00 a.m., in the chapel of Goff Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Bohannon Cemetery in the Calfkiller community. Ms. Heady passed away Saturday, April 9, 2022, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born Saturday, January 23, 1960, at The Hill Air Force Base in Utah, the daughter of the late James And Sharon Schmidt Heady. She was a homemaker. Survivors include a daughter, Sara (Tim) Golden of Cookeville; a son, Scott Snedeker of Silver Point. Visitation will be held Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
