Clay Hosting “An Evening Of Lola Jean Dillon” Concerts This Weekend

Clay County is kicking off its season of celebrating its 150th Anniversary with a Lola Jean Dillon concert series this weekend.

Courthouse Curator Thomas Watson said that they wanted to honor a local music legend and bring the community together. He said that while Lola Jean Dillon made a name for herself writing songs for the likes of Loretta Lynn and Reba McEntire, she was born and raised right in the heart of Celina.

“Her uncle Muck was a bus driver,” Watson said. “And I remember on the bus that Lola Jean was there with her sister and she had maybe a couple of cousins. And he would lead them on the school bus home and it was maybe some of the most beautiful singing that you’ve ever heard.”

Watson said that the concert will be Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. in the old courthouse theatre. Tickets are $15 and can be found at the Chamber of Commerce and the bank. He said that tickets will also be sold at the event.
