Brown said that he was thankful for the support his department has received over the years.

“I just want you to know that the city of Cookeville is a great place to work and I’ve enjoyed my time here,” Brown said. “I think the thing I’ll miss most in retirement is the people that work here. So thank you.”

Brown worked for the city since 1998. Engineer Blake Mayo will take over the role starting Monday. Mayo is a Hendersonville native and a graduate of Tennessee Tech University with a degree in Civil Engineering. He has been a licensed professional engineer in the State of Tennessee since 2011.

Mayor Ricky Shelton that working with Brown for the past 16 years has been a pleasure.

“To see what’s been accomplished and how you lead those folks,” Shelton said. “And you don’t just lead them, you get out there and work with them, and that says a lot to get people to work with you, as very evident by what you’ve accomplished in your career. So thank you very much for all you’ve done.”
