Crossville 10-Year Improvement Plan Includes Downtown Sidewalk Project

The indoor recreation center, a downtown sidewalk project and road improvements lead Crossville’s 10-year capital improvement plan.

City Manager Greg Wood said the plan is updated annual to serve as a guide for the city council.

“If we are going to budget cut or if we have extra money, we know to go to the number one project,” Wood said. “If we need to cut, we’re going to cut those number two or three projects. It’s a good document for helping us establish those priorities.”

Wood said the plan also includes scheduled replacements of city vehicles and equipment. Wood said the recreation facility is the first priority with about $30 million price tag. The city recently entered contract with Upland Design Group to engineer and design the project.

“That is a big project that will make a big difference in the community,” Wood said. “There is no opportunity for indoor recreation in the winter, and there’s no opportunities for swimming.”

Wood said the sidewalk project includes accessible walkways, new street lighting and pedestrian signals. Wood said the city is waiting for one final document from T-DOT to bid out the project.

“We were hoping to bid it this spring,” Wood said. “We may still be able to bid it this fall. If not, it will be the following spring.”

Wood said the road improvements will focus on creating a four-lane road from Genesis Road to Highway 127. Wood said this would improve travel for the north side of the city.
