Upper Cumberland Groups Partner For Human Trafficking Awareness Conference

A two-day conference on human trafficking and drug endangered children began Thursday at Cookeville’s River Community Church.

“Are You Awake?” brings together experts and local residents to better understand the issues.

Kelli Germain is the Director for Survivor Services at WillowBend Farms. WillowBend Farms is an anti-human trafficking nonprofit that helps survivors in the Upper Cumberland get the resources they need.

“The goal of this conference is to spread awareness and education about drugs and human trafficking,” Germain said. “And we look forward to having everyone here and learning.”

WillowBend Farms is joined by  Power of Putnam, Upper Cumberland Council of Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth, and the National Alliance for Drug Endangered Children. At the conference, attendees can expect to learn more about Tennessee’s drug trends, and hear from those who directly interact with those affected by addiction.

Attendees can also receive advanced training on signs of Human Trafficking, develop trauma-informed and strength-based responses, and learn about the intersection of child sexual abuse images and Human Trafficking.
