Master Gardener Plant Sale Returns To Putnam Fairgrounds This Saturday

A highlight of the spring season, the Master Gardener’s Plant Sale makes its in-person return this Saturday.

Putnam UT Extension Agent Wayne Key said that the sale will have a variety of Putnam-grown plants from tomatoes to sunflowers.

“One thing a lot of people like about the Master Gardener Plant Sale is that not only have they been raised right here in Putnam County from seed by certified master gardeners and people who know what they’re doing,” Key said. “At the plant sale, as people come to buy, as you can imagine there is a wealth of information amongst all the master gardeners and all of the knowledge that they have.”

Key said that master gardeners have been working since February to curate the crop for the sale at the Putnam County Fairgrounds. He said that the sale will go from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m., or until the stock runs out.

Key said that to become a master gardener, one has to undergo 40 hours of training, plus volunteering their time and skills in greenhouses in the community.

“They can ask questions, they can get advice on where to plant it at home, what type of soil works best for certain plants that they’ve bought or the shade selection variety of plants where they need to be planted, the sunlight required, the amount of watering required or what the plant’s going to be like as it gets older. I think a lot of people like that.”

Key said that there is an option to pre-order using an online link: https://pcmgtnplantsale.square.site/s/shop
