Habitat for Humanity has openings for repair projects in its Senior Aging in Place program.
Director Pam Ealey said that they do projects ranging from roof repair to wheelchair ramp installations.
“It just about keeping seniors in their homes long-term and having the opportunity to provide this,” Ealey said. “Some of this will be done by professional subs, and other jobs will be done by our great volunteers that are very skilled.”
Ealey said that low-income seniors in Putnam and Overton Counties have the opportunity to apply. She said that they estimate they have the ability to take on five to ten more projects, which are all grant-funded and at no cost to the homeowner.
Ealey said that it can be hard for the older population to keep up with home repairs. She said that this program is just one way to take care of the community’s elderly.
“The senior population is growing astronomically,” Ealey said. “In probably about 10 years there will be many more seniors than there are children in our country. We need to take care of our seniors, and this program is a great way to do it.”
