Clay County High School Celebrates Grand Opening Of Greenhouse

Clay County High School is opening its FFA greenhouse to the public this weekend.

Principal Teia Arms said that the FFA and Agriculture Department decided to use greenhouse skills to serve as a fundraiser for the school. She said that everything is done by the students from preparing the greenhouse to planting the plants.

“They get a lot of learning and life lessons out of it,” Arms said. “My son is actually in that class and he came home the other day and he said ‘Mom, I want to grow my own garden,’ simply because he did the work in the greenhouse. So a lot of these students are taking what they were taught and they’re taking it home and they’re raising their own gardens.”

She said that the greenhouse will have all kinds of hanging baskets, ferns, flowers, and vegetables.

The greenhouse will be open Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. through May 15th. All proceeds from the sale will go to benefit the agriculture program.
