Fentress County working to improve signage at Big South Fork Park.
County Executive Jimmy Johnson said that the county is working to get a grant reimbursement that could cover an estimated $2 million of work. He said that estimate includes engineering services, road upgrades, and signage upgrades.
“This is a big thing in Fentress County for our tourism, Big South Fork Park,” Johnson said. “And the signage has not been replaced in many, many years. And this is a grant that the park superintendent is going after.”
Johnson said that they are still working with an engineering firm to go over the details of the work. Johnson said the process is a slow one, and that it could take six or seven months before they can take the next steps.
Johnson said that the grant through TDOT only happens once every three years. He said that the work would greatly improve the area, and not just the signs.
“It will be in the Honey Creek Loop area in the park,” Johnson said. “But it will also be over on the Highway 154 offices in Oneida. And it will be along different highways, like 297 also to go along with what’s going on in the Honey Creek area. So it will be a lot of signage.”
