Algood Planning Commission unanimously approved the final site plans for a new 64-unit property on Quinland Lake Road.
UCDD Deputy Director Tommy Lee said that the plan includes one 10-unit building at the front of the property and two other 27-unit buildings at the back. He said that developers Bear Lake Partners were also responsible for the Greenwood Place complex, another mutli-family residential complex in the city.
“That’s a big development, the biggest one we’ve had in at least a couple of years,” Lee said. “And the board has been very impressed with Greenwood Place and how it looks and how it’s been operated. So they were happy to give Bear Lake Partners another shot at developing a multi-family complex in Algood.”
Lee said that the next steps will be for developers to get a building permit and begin construction. Lee said that there is not a current timeline for the process.
Lee said that the site plan was originally submitted last month to be studied by members. He said the Board of Zoning Appeals granted the plan a variance just before the Planning Commission meeting on Thursday.
“According to the zoning ordinance, a building can only have eight units in it” “So once we looked at how it was going to be laid out, we felt that is was best to grant them a variance to allow them ten units in the front and two building with 27 units. Now these buildings will be firewalled and sprinkled, so they’ll be very well-protected against fire.”
