PCSS Closed Friday To Support Lady Bees And Lady Cavs

In a show of support for the two Putnam County basketball teams playing in the state tournament on Friday, PCSS has announced schools will be closed.

Director Corby King said after seeing such widespread support for the teams from the student section, he wanted to extend the opportunity to those who wouldn’t otherwise be able to attend.

“We had lots of faculty members who would like to have been there to support the student-athletes who didn’t have that opportunity and other family members and faculty from the other schools who would like to do that,” King said. “And we want to give everyone the opportunity to support these kids. They have worked so hard all year and it’s just an exciting time.”

King said that for those who are interested, they are working on setting up pep busses that can take students to Murfreesboro for the games. UHS plays at 11:15 a.m. and CHS tips at 2:30 p.m. Both games will be played at the Murphy Center on the MTSU campus in Murfreesboro.

King said that the morale across the schools is high, and that everyone is excited for the two teams. While this is an exciting day for the Lady Bees and the Lady Cavs, the decision to close was not made lightly.

“I struggled with this one back and forth just trying to decide if this was the right thing to do or wrong thing and I’m still not 100 percent sure,” King said. “Because this is something we’ve not ever done in Putnam County, at least to my knowledge, we’ve not ever closed to go down and support teams, but this is also somewhat historic for us to have two teams playing during the school day (…) And we know that there were those that this is putting them in a bind, and there’s not a good answer for that. It’s not a decision that was made lightly.”
