Overton County COVID numbers may still seem high, but Health Department officials say that might not be the true picture.
At Thursday afternoon’s COVID-19 Press Conference in Livingston, Nursing Director Megan Reeder said that positivity rates sit at about 30 percent currently. She said that rate might keep restrictions in place at nursing homes and medical facilities.
“They’re still high and you’re probably still going to see things pinned down for a while,” Reeder said. “But the good news is we’re headed in the right direction. We have peaked, and now we are falling.”
Mayor Curtis Hayes said that based on numbers from the Health Department, the school system, and Livingston Regional Hospital, they will postpone COVID Press Conferences until the need arises. He said that despite falling numbers, they still want people to be vigilant, wear a mask if possible, and get vaccinated.
Hayes said that he is one of many who is ready for Livingston and the nation to be done with COVID. However, he said while it’s still present in the lives of the community, he believes in the importance of public health and safety.
