3 TTU Projects Included In Gov Lee’s Proposed Budget

Tennessee Tech has three capital projects that may gain state funding through Governor Bill Lee’s proposed budget.

President Phil Oldham said about $100 million earmarked for the complete renovation of Johnson Hall, demolition of Foster Hall and a new engineer building.

“It’s a tremendous budget that we can continue to improve the campus, and really ultimately satisfy our goal to have the absolute prettiest campus in the state of Tennessee,” Oldham said.

Oldham said the projects are included in Tech’s new master plan up for Trustee approval next month. Lee proposed a total of $1.1 billion of capital improvements for public university’s statewide.

The proposed engineer building would focus on advanced construction and manufacturing. The 80,000 square foot proposed facility to be the home of the university’s foundry would cost about $62 million.

About $20 million would be spent on Johnson Hall bringing new classrooms and updates the buildings electrical components. Foster Hall will be replaced with green space.

The budget still needs approval from the General Assembly before implemented.
