Good Audit Reports Can Boost Financial Interest In County

A good audit requires the work of a good team.

That’s according to Chelsea Qualls, Putnam County’s Manager of Accounts and Budgets. Putnam County finished with just one finding in its 2021 audit. She said that audits serve to better both the county and its community.

“Make sure we’re following our policies and procedures and doing things the right way,” Qualls said. “It’s not just looking at financials, it’s looking at what we’re doing day-to-day too.”

Qualls said that while they strive for a clean audit, having a good audit is just as important. She said that not also do people in the community want to know the county’s operations, it’s relevant to those who have a potential financial interest in the county as well.

“There are a lot of people who have a financial interest, and just interest in how the county is doing in general,” Qualls said. “So having an outside view of the financial statements, and how things are being run is important to citizens and anyone who has any financial interest in the county when it comes to bonds and notes as well.”
