Putnam Schools Using Different Selection Process For Contractor Over New School

Putnam County Schools will use a best value selection process to select the contractor for the new K-8 Southwest School.

School Board Chair Lynn McHenry said the board plans to put out a request for quotes in February. McHenry said contractors will be graded based on their responses. The top two or three will be considered for the project.

“The school board hasn’t, I don’t believe has used it before, but the state uses it very often,” McHenry said. “It’s becoming more and more popular, because it allows you to choose the right contractor that has the reputation that you want.”

McHenry said the school board aims for a contract bidding in April or May and possibly have the project awarded in the summer. McHenry said whoever is selected will control the bidding over subcontractors to actually conduct the work.

“We’re working the RFQ now in order to evaluate those that might bid on it,” McHenry said. “We’ll take that process of best value which basically gives us some flexibility to choose a good price and a good contractor. Both of those are very important.”

McHenry said the board will request for quotes through a questionnaire. McHenry said the school board held a work session on Saturday deciding to move forward with this process.

McHenry said if the time line works out, the project could begin mid-summer.
