Warren Arts Presents: “The Outsiders”

Warren Arts is inviting the community to see its latest production, “The Outsiders,” opening this weekend.

Director Chad McGee said that the play is based on the 1967 novel written by S.E. Hinton about teens growing up in Tulsa, Oklahoma in rough circumstances.

“And it kind of explores the conflict between the Greasers, the kind of kids of who are growing up in rougher circumstances,” McGee said. “And the Socs who are the wealthier kids in town and kind of the conflicts between the two groups.”

McGee said that even though its story was written almost 60 years ago, it’s still relevant today.

“You know there are always conflicts in society based on a myriad of different things,” McGee said. “And this is kind of at the heart of that. And it’s also a lot about growing up, and I think a lot of the things teenagers deal with growing up are universal. A lot of things change, but more things stay the same than change and I think it speaks to that experience as well.”

McGee said that the cast is full of talented young actors who have been rehearsing since November. He said that both new faces and Warren Arts veterans bring the play to life.

“It’s amazing, the talent that they have,” McGee said. “And the growth that they’ve shown over the last few years as performers, the veterans, is incredible. And all of the new faces are right there with them. It’s something you really wouldn’t want to miss because it’s incredible to see.”

McGee said that the show runs the next two weekends, with performances on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday performances at 2 p.m. Tickets can be found on Warren Arts’ website.
