Putnam County Clerk’s Office is now selling the state’s new license plates.
County Clerk Wayne Nabors said that his office is currently processing new plate renewals for those who have received their renewal notice for January and February.
“There are actually two different kinds of new plates,” Nabors said. “They both look alike, they both have the tri-star in the middle, but one has ‘In God, We Trust’ across the tri-star in the middle, and the other does not.”
Nabors said that the system will not allow plate renewals sooner than two months. He said that when you come to renew plates, bring your renewal notice. He said if your plate is going to expire and you have not received a renewal notice, bring your registration, car insurance, and driver’s license.
According to the state Department of Revenue, “Under Tennessee law, the plate may be redesigned every eight years if funds are approved in the General Assembly’s annual budget. This new license plate design will replace the current plate design launched in 2006, with modifications in 2011, 2016, and 2017.”
New plates can be renewed in person, online, by mail, or by kiosk. If you choose not to renew in person, the renewal fee will include $5 for mailing.
