Fentress Commission Approves Grant Application To Housing Agency

Fentress County Commissioners voted Monday to submit an application to the Tennessee Housing Agency’s 2022 Grant Program.

County Grant Writer Amanda Mainord said that the county could get up to $500,000 to help low-income, elderly or disabled citizens get important home repairs.

“Windows, roofs, HVAC systems,” Mainord said. “And this grant which is different from the last one we worked on, we can actually, if the home is in so bad of shape, we can actually demolish the home and build them a new one.”

Mainord said in this grant the county will also be able to work on mobile home repairs. She said they also have the ability to replace the mobile homes if needed. She said that previous grants did not allow for work on mobile homes.

Mainord said that the county has had a successful track record in applying for such grants in the past. She said in 2016, the county was able to get a grant for some $375,000.

“We were actually able to work on 12 or 13 homes,” Mainord said. “Our plan was to work on eight, but we did 13 back then. So I would like to apply for that again this year.”
