Auditions Open For Plateau Women’s Chorus Spring Season

Plateau Women’s Chorus holding auditions this month for its spring season.

Director Dana Beal said women of all ages from high school to their 80’s participate in the chorus. Beal said you can either try out for as a soloist or a group singer.

“Auditions are very low-key,” Beal said. “If they’re wanting to be a soloist, they need to sing something that they are familiar with that they enjoy singing. So that I can hear the range and flexibility.”

Beal said group singers will just be required to match pitches at the try out. Beal said music reading abilities are preferred, but several women entered without the knowledge. A brief course is offered before the season begins to bring you up to speed.

“Especially as women, this coming concert we’re performing some work by female composers,” Beal said. “That is part of our mission is to give voice to female composers who are largely under published when you look over music history.”

Beal said performers will be a part of two Sunday concerts April 3rd and April 10th. Beal said the 2021 season was cut short due to COVID, so the chorus hopeful for the new year.

“We’re a growing group. We started two years before the pandemic,” Beal said. “We went from 24 to almost 50 in that time, and we’ve got about 45 ladies right now ready to sing.”

Auditions and rehearsals take place at Crossville First United Methodist Church. Beal said you can schedule an January audition by calling 305-393-2278. If you make the cut, Beal said meetings occur Tuesday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
