UC Roads Remain Slick, Highway Departments Expect Dangerous Conditions Until Sat

Majority of Upper Cumberland roadways remain treacherous after extreme low temperatures early this morning halted progress by most highway departments.

Road salt becomes a non-factor when temperatures drop to single digits. Putnam County Road Supervisor Randy Jones said his crews resumed clearing roads once the sun peaked out to help.

However, the message remains the same. Do not drive unless necessary. Jones said majority of county roads remain treacherous. State roads have seemed to improve though as T-DOT continues work.

It is the same picture for most Upper Cumberland Counties. Clay, Jackson, Overton and White Counties reporting dangerous conditions. Overton Highway Superintendent James Norrod said he expects the slick roads to remain until Saturday once temperatures rise.

As the day goes on, road crews expect the sun to help conditions.
