The January 15th deadline is approaching to enroll in 2022 health insurance plans.
The Tennessee Healthcare Campaign is an organization that aims to help those who are underserved in the community find a health care plan they can afford. Outreach Coordinator Tom Savage said that some 48 percent of people in the area don’t have coverage.
“Right now it is affordable simply because of the rescue package, the $1.9 trillion that was passed earlier last year,” Savage said. “Money is there. And there are subsidies that you can get that make the insurance a lot cheaper. You can get it for $10 or less.”
Savage said that there are advisors available to help individuals navigate signing up. He said those interested in utilizing the free service can call 844-644-5443.
Savage said that the main requirement is to have a job. He said that the state did not accept Medicaid expansion, but individuals can still get cheap insurance from insureall.com. He said that one must prove that they’ve worked through the year.
“And so if you can do that, they can match you up with some healthcare insurance that will suit you and your family well,” Savage said. “Also, TennCare is available for anyone with a child under 20. You can be insured. A woman can be insured if she’s with child, and the child can stay on TennCare all the way up to age 20, but the mother will only be covered for one year.”
